PanPastels

I wasn't sure if this was the best forum to post it in, but I want to give props to PanPastels. All it took was 5 seconds of wiping a little sponge on some scrap paper and I walked out of the art store (which is all too conveniently located by my bus stop in my work neighbourhood) with the "landscape" set.

They come compressed in little cakes, each protected in its own plastic pan. No worries about two colours rubbing up against each other and contaminating the colour, or sticks breaking. They are extremely low dust, which makes them very clean. Applying them is a dream because all you have to do is load up the sponge brush and work away. Colours go on thicker, smoother, richer and with less work. I have never had such consistent and rich results with regular pastels. They can be used with other mediums too.

They are such a specialty item that buying from online retailers seems a good choice - our Michaels store doesn't carry them. Their website is http://www.panpastels.com (and no, I'm not getting paid to write this :-))

Ah, this is a wonderful little review. :D

Thank you for posting it!

And you sorta bring up an interesting point. Maybe there is room in the forum for a section dedicated to product reviews and opinions? Media, tablets, programs!

oh man, i'm all over that idea. i love geeking out about supplies *_*

those are cute! look like litte make up trays :) that product demo was really interesting. pastels are really good as ground color for color pencil pieces. i use makeup applicators (which appear to be made out of the same dense spongy foam the panpastels are) to cover large bodies with soft pastels, but having them in "pan" for would make for an easier and quicker application (like graphite and charcoal which also come in "powder" form).

Well I'd say art product reviews and recommendations are definitely in the category of "Artistic Dialogue." I mean, what else goes here? Tutorials have their own forum and there is a library already, and a critique section for specific questions...so that leaves very little for Artistic Dialogue except maybe talking about favorite artists and techniques maybe...(though techniques borders on tutorials)...

I love PanPastels too! It's like painting but with more control. :) I have ordered a spattering of pans in colours I usually use, and played with them a bit, and I'm very pleased with the results so far.
