Rarely Drawn Animals

The poor creatures. There are always more interesting artistic subjects that get overlooked for the more popular topics.

What about the naked mole rat, the star nosed mole, the tuatara? The mighty nudibranch! Can anyone anthropormorphize a Zebra Duiker?

Is there an animal you think is interesting and deserves some artistic exposure? Want to challenge your interpretive muscles?

In this game you may:

Post an "unpopular" animal, perhaps with some information about it. Education is always a lovely bonus!

Challenge yourself to draw an animal posted that strikes your fancy (Anthropomorphic, cartoon, realistic). Artistic interpretations way, way open!

No wolves, foxes or...*sigh* cheetahs in this game. The weirder the better!

The blue-footed booby (Sula nebouxii) is an adorable seabird with bright seafoam-blue webbed feet and a blue-gray face to match. The blue-footed booby belongs the Order Pelecaniformes (Pelicans and their relatives) and has long pointed wings and a narrow pointed bill.

Male blue-footed boobies show off their blue feet during their courtship dance, in which he picks up his feet and displays them in an exagerated step-walk.

There are approximately 40,000 breeding pairs of blue-footed boobies in the world and half of them inhabit the Galapagos Islands.

I like these birds they are cool, my uncle went to the Galapagos Islands and saw them.

This isn't the rarest of the rare, but I still think it's a neglected species, and one of my favorites.

The hippopotamus.

Here's a bird I next to never see, beautiful things though and they live on the coast (They're also bloody huge). Gannets!

They have a lovely cream face with a bright blue eye, kinda like jackdaws. Turns out they are the biggest northern seabird so that explains a lot. Should draw one myself, there was a focus on them a few years back in Spring Watch though I've also seen them at Bempton Cliffs myself :) The kids aren't the most handsome thing in the world but they certainly pull out a swan when they grow.

A muffin a day keeps the evil away.

Alrighty, it's time we had someone take that challenge to draw one of these critters.
I present you with the under loved, yet often adorable asiatic water buffalo:

This particular specimen is wearing a Thai (Laotian, Cambodian) style Phakama (plaid cloth of many functions) around his head, and another couple at his waist. The Thai water buffalo is frequently the butt of many jokes. In Thai, the word for buffalo is also slang for "retard" as well as the male genitalia. Poor unloved buffalo.

a couple of photos from Thailand:
